Betta Breeding Journey- yellow fancy HMPK

Hey y’all! Welcome to my breeding project log. I will post my updates and info about my first ever breeding project. Thank you to philam who started my betta obsession, especially with the plakats. This has been a long time in the works but I’m finally ready!

I am starting with a pair of yellow fancy HMPK betta I imported from Vietnam. I will attach photos of the parents. The male did come with slight damage to his fin, likely took a chomp on it during transit, but it has already grown back in the two weeks since I got them.

I am spawning them in a plastic tub! I have started the conditioning process today and will release the female tomorrow. So far so good as the male is already hard at work on his bubble nest. Can’t wait to share my journey with you guys!

i bet I decided to only buy from breeders now because I bought 5 bettas 1 male 4 females but one female became a male so separated him but that little devil squeezed through my divider and beat the heck out of a betta 3 times his size and didn't end up with any torn fins

 

Oh my, I have quite a few babies! Very exciting!






I’ve started to pick out my larger scale jarring system already, since I’ll need a lot. I’ve secured another room in the house to hold shelves for the jars. Unfortunately because of how horribly this house is sealed to the outside and how badly insulated it is, I can’t heat the room, so I’m going to use reptile heat mats or flex watt tape.

philam, what jars did you use? I really like the plastic ones with the grip handles but a lot of places charge $2-$3 per unless you order like 1000. I know you had a lot of babies so maybe you could share your wisdom on jarring methods, and what worked well for you.

Yellow fancy are doing good. Still a little smaller then I would like them to be, but they are still growing.

my fccp are almost a month old, I have over 100. I’m very excited about that spawn, they are doing great.
