My male betta for the past couple of days looks like he has been breathing hard and I can see his beard i think its called. Hes eating fine and all the parameters are good (Nitrate-10 Nitrite-0 Ammonia-0) Im not really sure whats wrong. He was from petco so it could be from inbreeding (I really don't know though) Tell me if you need any more info or if you have had this happen

Is there sufficient flow in the tank? Have you considered an air stone?

Tank size and tank mates?

I have an air stone in there and its a 15 gallon with 2 snails. Ive had him for about 8 months and I think he's about 2 years old.

Does it look like his scales are pineconing? If he’s already two then he may be getting old and having age related issues.

Have you changed anything around in the tank? Noticed anything different in behaviour?

I’m inclined to say old age, but I don’t think it is that just yet.

He kind of just seems lazyer. Last nigh he laid himself on a plant and he stayed there for about 15 minutes.

He looks perfectly fine except for the breathing

Obviously i dont know his exact age but I doubt its from old age. He might be closer to 1.5 years

Mine was that lazy for a few months, then he knocked his head (literally) and started to act curious again. Mine just got Dropsy, and will sit in the same place for hours, watch your Betta's activity and interest in food too. I don't think it would be age related issues, mine is about 2 as well (a little older) so I wouldn't think it would be age related, since even petsmart or petco Bettas live longer under good care. I wish the best.
