Betta bit his fin while eating

My veiltail betta Heithcliff bit his fin today while I was trying to feed him some brown shrimp. I thawed the frozen brown shrimp and picked a few up with a turkey baster and went to drop it in the tank I guess he got too excited and mistook his long fin for a shrimp and attacked it. He has torn a few phones at the end of his tail fin and I hope it didn’t hurt. I love him and I hope it doesn’t get infected or anything. I was gunna do my weekly 50% water change tmrw but I might do it today just to insure his tail doesn’t get infected. Rn he is in a 5 gal heated tank with tonnes of plants and he seems very happy.

Do your 50% today and i would do 3-4 smaller water changes a week for the next 3-4 weeks to keep out infection and help the fin grow back. Hopefully, it is a one time thing, because tail-biters can be stressful.

Thank you for replying I will definitely do the water change today. I also noticed a couple typos lol I meant brine shrimp and holes in his fin. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen him do something like this but he is always super excited and swimming around super fast whenever it’s time to eat. Maybe I should feed him more I’ve had him since April and he’s probably a year old or more. I give him three omega one betta buffet pellets twice a day or a few bug bite betta formula pellets, and ever week or so a few brine shrimp or blood worms.

That should be plenty. Some bettas get super excited about everything! My current betta takes his sweet time getting to the food. He devours it eagerly once he gets there, though.

Update: it’s gotten worse oh nooo. Yesterday he was looking good just a little tear still with some white fuzz and then This morning his fin was tearing and looked terrible. I’m so sad I don’t know what to do it progressed so quickly. I did a 25%water change two days ago and I will do another one today. There’s catappa in his tank and he is still active and eating well. I was going to take out a plant that isn’t growing well but I don’t want to stress him out.
