HI guys. I have a 10 gallon betta tank that's been running since September, and the past 3 days my betta has been less and less active. He used to swim all over the tank, but now stays at the bottom or on the plant leaves. Is he becoming sick? Is he just acting lazy since hes old?

Tank:
Size - 10gallons
Temp - 79F
Substrate - sand
Plants - live (amazon sword, moss ball)
Filter - hob

Stock:
1 male betta
1 nerite snail

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 5

How long have you had him and where did you get him from? He looks perfectly fine and healthy so I just think it's from old age.

Ive had him 1 year, and my friend had him 2 years (I took him since she was moving). She got him from Petsmart

It has movement. My last water change was last night. I do a 25% weekly.

I'm not 100% sure if hes being inactive from bordom or age. I feed him once a day. I switch between frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, and pellets

He certainly is old because you won't know the specific age of a betta from the pet store plus the fact that he's a heavily finned betta means that he'll be less active as he gets older.

Since Bettas normally live for 4-7 years and this guy is at least 3.5 years old, it could be old age. When I added a lot of stem plants to my betta''s tank, it really made him perk up. Before I got him, he had extensive fin damage, and once they healed they got three times as long and it really slowed him down. The only two things that perk him up are new plants and live black worms and white worms.
