Betta acting odd in new tank

Hey everyone. Just got a new betta today. Don’t know how long he’s been there, but considering his appearance and the fact that he was on clearance, I can only assume he’s been there awhile. He now lives in a 6 gallon tank. I’ve been keeping an extra close eye on the water. 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia, 7.4-7.8 ph, 81 degrees, 5.0 nitrate. He swam around a bit earlier but now he’s just chilling at the top. I might just be being paranoid, but this is normal for a betta in a new tank right? Everything else seems ok. I wanna give the little guy a good life and I’m just worried about him. Thanks.
PS; I just turned on his light to take the pics, turned it off right after

Seems pretty normal for a new betta. Not usually gonna tell much first day or two unless something is falling off. Be careful of that parnoia, thats how most people unintentionally kill fish.

Nothing to worry about on day 1, bettas are labyrinth breathers and stay near the top to catch a breath easily. If you haven't already, you'll want to provide lots of leafy hammocks near the surface so he can relax up there :)

Got it. I’ll try to relax a bit, he’s probably been in a cup for a long time lol

Lovely betta!!! I'm sure he's loving his new home! He may start coloring up a bit, too, with clean water and room to swim. :)

Thank you. He’s still doing what he was doing yesterday, except now sometimes he’ll randomly start swimming at the speed of light. Still no ammonia\nitrites, temperature has been the same. He could be reacting to the light though.

They sometimes will do that..the swimming really fast thing, I mean. I had a male that would do that every time I came up to the tank. He'd swim really fast, put his face up against the glass, and flare like crazy. They really are great little fish with huge personalities. He'll come out of his shell when he feels comfortable.
