Betta accidentally ate a bug

So I just did a water change (40%) and when I was adding new water in, it stirred up a bit of leftover food from last night. I also happened to see 1/3 of a bug in there.. just a behind and some legs.. I'm assuming a bug ended up in the water. Obviously I'm not sure when this happened, but what I want to know is it ok that he ate the bug? I mean what if there were pesticides or it wasn't a safe bug for him to eat. I've read articles stating bettas can eat bugs, but I'm worried that it had pesticides or wasn't safe for him...

Only way to know is to observe the betta, and not with an over-thinkers eyes. Otherwise yes, bugs are ok for bettas to eat.

I think it was a gnat since I see one wing and it was pretty small anyways. He's acting normal and stuff. I just get so nervous when it comes to this stuff since he really means a lot to me

Bettas seem to love gnats, mosquito larvae & other small bugs that sometimes fall into a tank. Most of these creatures will die pretty swiftly from sprayed pesticides - like on the spot. Unless pesticides are sprayed in your house & near your tank (the rule is to spray *nothing* near a tank) it's unlikely the gnat that fell in had any pesticides on him. Not to worry maddiegrace. He's probably very happy to have had that gnat as a snack! :)

We get pest control companies coming to our door regularly wanting to treat for spiders and insects. Although we have some spider webs around the house, I consider spiders to be helpful by trapping insects, so I do not want to remove them. I do not want ants and will use insecticides on ant colonies outside. The only thing I use inside the house is the ant traps. I do not use any insecticides inside the house as it can be harmful to my fish, my pets, and to my family.

Insects are part of the diet of birds and fish, Your betta will happily consume any insect that has the misfortune of falling into the tank. Just make sure you do not use insecticides inside your home as the residual vapors can affect the fish.

Well honestly, that's a relief! We have a few farms nearby, but I don't think we spray pesticides outside our house and we definitely don't spray them inside!
