Beta looks like he injured his head

lpparish

My fish is acting normal and eating. He looks like he is missing scales on his head. Just checked water. Ph 7.2, 0 nitrates/nitrites, 0 ammonia, temp 77.3. Anyone know what this is?

What a pretty betta!!!

He could have scraped some scales off, if he had scales on his head before when you first got him. If not, that may just be the way he is...

Bettas are just notorious for trying to squeeze into places where they shouldn't be, so it's always best to "betta proof" a tank by making sure that there is no way for them to do things like get sucked onto the intake of the filter, or scrape his head, body or fins on rough surfaces on drift wood, rocks, hides, or other decor.

If he has lost some scales, then the best thing to do is some small frequent water changes every other day to help keep his water pristine. Super clean water will prevent a ton of health issues.

Hope this helps! :)

There was a coconut beta hide that I took out. I did see him squeeze between the glass and hide to get in instead of using the door. I don't normally look at him from above so just noticed this yesterday. I would assume if he had it all along I would have noticed it before now. Keeping an eye on him and will do water changes to help him.
