Our beta fish Reggie has a bulge on his side, and it recently seems to have opened to expose a white underneath. I first noticed a bump about 10 days ago, but just now noticed it had opened (the photo of him in front of the man statue is from Sept 26, the others are from today). He is behaving/swimming normally and seems healthy besides this. What is this and why can I do to help him get better?
Context: we got our tank and fish in late August (fish are from the local petco). We have one male beta and an albino cory catfish (initially we had two cories bc they are schooling fish but one died soon after we got him. we got another over the weekend as a companion and today it died as well for no apparent reason. It’s a 10 gallon tank with both live and fake plants. the tank is clean/gets cleaned regularly, the water/nitrate levels should be fine, they eat regularly, and they all get along).
