Beta Beginner, White Fungus-like Spot

Hi, I'm a new betta owner.
I noticed a white fungus-like spot on his face, going towards his eye. I was advised by the fish store to use "Tetra Fungus Guard". It's a fizzing tablet for his tank. I've been using it but there is no change in the white fungus-like spot.
  1. He's very active, I haven't seen any slowing in his activity at all
  2. He's a very good eater
  3. Seems happy, he swims towards me when I get near his tank
  4. I change his water twice a week
  5. I'm not using anything else in his tank.
Does anyone know what is this white growth on his face? I attached a picture.
Thank you

Hmmm, I don't see a sign of fungus on that. Fungas would look truely fuzzy. Like its growing small white hairs and I don't see any of that here.

To me, it may be bacterial, and I would stick with that if its continually getting worse....otherwise, to me, it looks like he mightve wounded himself on something. And if that's the case it should heal on its own within a few weeks as long as his water stays clean/healthy.

It doesn't look irritated like its infected either. Did you just notice it? Like it occured overnight or did it occur and get worse over a period of time?

Hi, Thank you so much for your reply. I kinda feel like I'm not taking very good care of it.

I first noticed the white spot in September. It's definitely grown bigger since then.

Should I try medicine or drops for a bacterial infection?

Thank you!

Well, that would be the second option. If youve already been treating him for a fungal infection with no improvement. I would do a water change (to dilute the amount of fungas medication in the tank) and then dose with a bacterial medication to see if that helps.

Bacterial infections can be hard to treat though. Whatever store you go to, I'm sure you'll find more than 1 product in their medication isle that says it treats bacterial infections. Take a look at the active ingredients in these medications. This would be an external bacterial infection. I couldnt tell you which active ingredient would do the trick. BUT, if you treat him with a bacterial med and nothing gets better, you may want to try another bacterial med with a different active ingredient.

Like with bacteria that affects us, some strains are more resistent to some medications opposed to others.

On the bright side, if you're keeping up with water changes, and have a heater in the tank. Than you're taking much better care of him thank most betta keepers. Also, he doesn't look too bad to me, Ive seen a lot worse so, I'm sure he has a happy home with you. .
