Hate to hear that. I recent had to do the same thing.
Best thing in my opinion is Clove Oil.

You can use clove oil. Just search on YouTube how to do it.

I don't have clove oil at the moment, I do have olive oil though.. Would it work the same?
If not is there another option?

Just started
I had to euthanize one of my fish so I put the fish in my api test solution (used) and it killed the fish almost instantly

Could you explain farther on how you did it? Sorry, I'm not understanding.

I don't know if thats a great idea because it probably died a very painful death in the acids, I would not use the api solution.
I would either use clove oil, most stores carry it like The Vitamin Shoppe or other health food stores. Its very easy to use. Take a small amount of tank water in a container, add about 10 drops of clove oil, shake it well, put your fish in and it will go right to sleep (in under a minute). I usually leave them in there for about 15 minutes and make sure their gills are not moving.

You can use vodka or put in freezer in a cup of water, slowly puts to sleep then dies.

Freezing is extremely long and painful for the fish. Clove oil is the best option.
