Husband has decided a normal stand will be too tall, and wants to build a small compartment, about 2ft tall instead to fill a concave space (chimney breast on one side and wall on the other). He can't decide whether to build it with doors, or just to blend in it with the wall.
I've suggested if he does that to have it flush with the back wall, and the sockets underneath it. Also, to use a water proofing material and sealant between the tank, the wall and the top of the unit, to prevent any leakages getting to the sockets, along with a small hidden door, that allows access to the plugs if anything goes wrong.
Does anyone see any holes in that idea? Am I better having the sockets above the unit, just high enough to keep it clear of water if an accident occurs? It's the only way i'm going to get my 120cm long fish tank in there, as he wants to put our 32 inch on a bracket or floating shelf (we've looked into the maximum weights various types can take, along with potential accidents - TV weighs 13.5KG) above the tank.
Tank i'm looking at is 48 inches long, by 14.5 inches width and 15 inches tall (preferably 15 inches).
We're not avid TV watchers, just mainly at tea time, or when we have guests (but that's rare), so tv off 95% of the day.
What are the strongest structures base wise? And maximum loads each structure can take, thanks in advance
