Best Treatment For Betta With Fin Rot

Hello, I’m struggling to treat my betta’s Fin rot. I used Kanaplex for a week at it’s rec dosage, which actually hasn’t worked at all. The fish may also have had ich, which is gone now at least. I started using microbe-lift artemiss (via petco employee) but I’m not sure if it’s the best plan?

The Fin Rot is progressing rapidly! What is the best course of action to treat him? Attached a picture below.

Parameters:
Filter Media: Seachem Purigen
Temp: 78 (was at 75, would bringing temp back down help with fin rot?)
Size: 5 gallon
PH: Neutral
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites (all): 0
Fish age: In my possession for 9 months, bought at petco.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

That looks less like finrot to me and more like its been torn- you may want to put a sponge over your filter intake and make sure nothing in the tank is sharp.

Also you said your ph is neutral- is it exactly 7? and what about nitrates?

Oh that’s interesting to hear that it’s torn as opposed to this being fin rot. How can I tell the difference?

There is actually nothing sharp in the tank, so I’m going to look closely.

Yeah, ph is neutral and there is a lack of nitrates. Always comes up as the lowest color using apI test liquid.

In the pictures provided the affected area seems to only be the top half of the tail while fin rot typically affects the whole thing. It also usually creates a dark line along the edges. That's odd that you don't have any nitrates at all in a cycled tank- are you sure you're doing it right? 10 drops from bottle one, shake for 30 seconds, 10 drops from bottle 2, shake for a minute?

Thankfully treating torn fins is pretty much the same as treating treating fin rot- just keep the water clean. Add some stressguard if you have it. If it gets worse you can clean/disinfect it with a aquarium salt bath.

That makes a lot of sense, thanks! As far as nitrates go, I’ve wondered the same thing.. I’ve done about 3 - 70% water changes in the 9 months, usually to combat brown algae. So I assume that’s why, but I’m not sure. It’s been at least a month since the last 70% water change as well.
