Best Thing To Feed Fish While On Vacation?

What would be something that could feed my fish while I go on a 7 day vacation besides those feeder tablets and gels. I also don't have the budget to purchase auto feeders. I was thinking maybe a sinking algae wafer or two.

Maybe a combo of the wafer, feeder block and gell would be enough for a week. Make sure all your filters are established well with BB an do a large PWC before you go. Better for them to be really hungary then dead from ammonia

I wouldn't do the vacation feeder. You will come home to a giant mess and a tank with illness. It's crazy how bad it can get with those things.

Your fish will be ok not being fed for 7 days. Give them a good big meal the morning you leave. They should be fine.

Previously healthy fish should be okay without food for more than a week, so you shouldn't really feed them anything during the vacation.

When I go out of town, I leave lights off and a curtain cracked. I do a large wc before leaving and do not feed after the wc. When I return, another large wc (I don't even test if I've been gone 5+ days) and then feed small amounts the next couple days. So long as they are healthy they are fine for a week. Not worth the risk of vacation feeders or "helpful" friends and family.

Yup. When they are shipped to stores, they easily go a week unfed. In a healthy tank, they won't even lose weight til 10 days have passed. Wild fish don't get to eat every day, and they suffer through long lean periods. Their bodies can handle a week with no obvious discomfort.

I don't know if this helps, but I got this auto feeder and I find it pretty affordable. I use this to feed my fish during college breaks and holidays when I go home. If you aren't going to be gone too long, and this isn't something you'd like to order, than not feeding them for a few days won't hurt them!

So the BB won't die if I don't feed my tanks for 7 days?

There will still be waste produced.
