Somehow I posted that like you said it but you get the idea.
Oh and I got the Red Root floater idea from you.
How did the red roof floaters come in? I want to buy some but I have heard they die sometimes in shipping.

Sometimes when we hit reply the quote does not load fast enough & we are already typing- it's happened to me too.

Awesome!! I've had bad luck with Monte Carlo ( but it was the culture tissue sample cups from Petsmart x3) seems anything with little tiny leaves die on me! I hope yours does great. How did the RRF come? I ordered them TWICE from him & even got extras but they kept Browning & dying. I spent a little more & bought thrm from ETSY & they are thriving now. I'm curious to see if your RRF grow- or if it was just ME personally killing them haha.
The crypts too- I have a bunch of baby ones from Marcus (extras) I'm waiting to see how they look full grown!
These are the other RRF I purchased from WittAquatics on ETSY:

Everything in this plant QT tank are from him except the RRF. The Ludwigia ovals are beautiful, in my last E-Mail I told him he should update his website with some newer photos because if I knew the ovals looked as good as they do then I would have ordered them a long time ago!
Those RRF had 0 roots when arrived, the growth between roots & leaves has been astounding. It was $15.00 USD

Those look great! Nice color. Mine came in a sealed bag. We will see how they do. Here is a few, I split them between 2 tanks to see if they will grow better in one than the other. Also some duckweed I think. My aunt gave it to me but it came in a neat little mossy patty that dissolved into floating plants everywhere. I have mixed emotions on the duckweed. She got them in a plant pack. I cannot keep a tissue culture alive!

Pardon,I don't mean to barge in but I'm awaiting an order of water sprite from Aquaticarts.Im new to the live plants but I'd like to know once the plant is received, can I just drop in the water or is there anything else I need to do before?
I would do a aquarium salt dip and then rinse them in dechlorinated tap water to kill off any pests. You could also do bleach dip or hydrogen peroxide dip. If you search plant dips on the forum youll find a lot of different ways to do them.

That is up to you. I personally QT all my plants now for a few weeks because I have found critters In my plants; including:
Live blood worms
Leeches
Regular earthworms
Detritus worms
Planaria worms
Freshwater Limpets
Bladder snails
Mini Red Ramshorns Snails
A garden Snail!
Globular Springtails (im assuming they came with plants because they just randomly appeared one day & spring all over aquarium surface in my 20g)
If you do not have space to QT you can rinse then well under tap water, then put in a container of dechlorinated water for 15 minutes. I've tried the salt soak overnight & the bladder snails/eggs survived it.
QT also lets the plant adjust, I can trim it and remove decaying matter easier in a small tank than digging out of a large tank if it melts/adjusts.

Oh I wonder how your experiment will go- between the two tanks, keep us posted. I've never kept duckweed but I've heard the groans about it haha. Does duckweed just float in little leaves or does it have long roots like the frogbit can grow?

I have had the same experience with the ludiwiga. It took forever to root. And the plant weight seemed to just wear out the stems. I used a rubber band to attach them to a rock. And that did better. Oh and I answered your question about the RRF but sent it in another message.

Oh my goodness!! I cannot believe all those pests! I will start QT my plants or rinsing them at the very least. Man.
Duckweed has teeny little roots. It is in a livebearer tank with low water flow. Probably would not do good in a tank with a fast water flow.

I've come to like Buceplant.com. They have a great selection of plants. I recently placed an order, where I bought 10 different species of plants...most I could not find in stock elsewhere. All the plants arrived healthy.

I've also made dozens of orders with Aquariumplants.com. They have a bit less selection sometimes...things seem to be out of stock a lot. But, I've never had a bad experience with them.

Well the good thing about any new plants in with livebearers-- is that IF any pests come along with them, Livebearers will usually clean them right up. Oh I forgot to add Hydra & Algae to that pest list as well lol.

Thankyou Kathylee for the response and info..I will definitely rinse it out and then put it in a container of treated water. After, that if every thing looks good to go then I can put it in the tank???
Also should the treated water be temp match to the water in my tank or it doesn't make a difference?

You can, I just started keeping live plants about 1 year ago. It's been a learning process, you can do things & treat new plants different ways & just see which suits you best.

To us all on this post: I used to get so upset when a plant melted, leaves fell off, turned an odd color, stems broke.. Etc.. Then I remembered that growing a regular outdoor garden has it bugs, pests, weeds; it's own set of challenges. And that we are are essentially growing an underwater Garden in a closed ecosystem, so it's bound to come with it's hills & valleys. Trial & error, we learn as we go

This is so very true! I had that same realization myself. Killed a $10 plant? So what...that free plant is growing like a weed. Just like my outside garden, some things thrive and some things die. I agree with you!

Nothing like midnight shopping to convince me that I need more plants. No idea where I'll put the crypt but hey $2.88 for a crypt how could I not get it?
Thanks for the reccomendation of Marcus Fish Tanks! (My wallet doesn't share the same sentiment.)

I recieved my order of water sprite...my very first live aquarium plant. But I'm a bit confused, now the plant looked ok and was packed well. Its in my tank I followed what you said on how to rinse and clean the plants..Kathylee.The confusing part was what I thought or was expecting to get.It was two stems with some leaves on it,and the roots on one was brown and the other green.I was thinking I was going to get like a small bushy batch.I didn't immediately take pictures but, I did take some pics of the water sprite in the tank.Ive watched videos on YouTube on water sprite and researched even but for some reason I feel like I still don't know what I should be looking for whether it be ordinary plants online or even in the store...I could definitely use some help.lol

Yes I can see why your confused, lol, because it's very small. I have purchased water sprite Twice from Dustin'sFishtanks and the first time, it was a huge 12 inch tall mass- just a huge mess, I could not even untangle it, then I found out it was grown above-water, so it all died into a brown mess, new circular branches grew, lifted off from the main plant, and floated The part at the bottom turned brown & melted away... So I was left with a messy floating plant. Ordered a 2cd one & the same thing happened, was just a big mess.
I think you received a baby, by the looks, I would let it float a few days until you see some root growth at the bottom, then try to plant it & see if it stays grounded!
Where did you order from? Sorry I cannot remember.

They have a really good reputation! I would give it some time & see how it does. Once it's planted, it may take right off and show plenty of growth. It may melt a little bit while adjusting.
This is a cropped photo of mine: in my messy mollies tank; this picture was from a few months ago- because I can see multiple floating plants ha, but up in the right corner are the stems of bottom of plant- all those fall off on me every time, and the plant just floats & does what it pleases :/

Oh sweet! I was planning on attaching it to the driftwood I have in my 75 gallon so having a decently sized one would be awesome. I actually bought one before from a different vendor, but it had anubias rot and completely fell apart as soon as I tried to remove it from the pot. I was heartbroken because it was an absolutely stunning plant. I'm very excited to have it again!

I get most of my plants for reputable sellers on Ebay. I usually find pretty good deals. I usually do anubias, java fern, and a bunch of different types of floating plants. I've gotten plenty of extras of different types, that sellers have thrown in.

Obviously aquarium coop, that's always my number 1! but they are a bit expensive compared to others, H2O plants has some good looking stuff too, lots of stuff from tropica, which I've seen TONS of really great things about and had good success with tropica aquasoil so I'm curious to try their plants

Hey there, just wanted to show how good my plants from Marcus fishtanks are. My red root floaters are not great, still just kinda there but here is a picture and the crypts and Dwarf Sag are spreading. Most in the foreground are from Marcus except the java moss.
I did get Monte Carlo but just recently took it out of the pot and planted it. Its just kinda there right now, not taking off.
