55 Gallon Tank Best Placement For A Heater

Hey guys! In bigger thanks, mine is 55 gallons), where do you place your heater? I have a 55 gallon tank with 2 60 Filters. I feel like my water is colder on one side of the tank (opposite side of the heater) then it is the other (where the heater is located). I know the water will be a little more colder the further the heater is, but would possibly putting the heater in the middle, between the filters make a difference? Or would it be better yo add a 2nd heater? Just asking bc I have 2 large goldfish and 2 large plecos... will add pix if asked. I just want to make sure I am mimicking their habits with the temp as closely as I can.

2 heaters is always better IMO. Will distribute the heat better and adds a safeguard if one fails.

Myself, i am of the school of 2 as well. I would have 2 heaters, one by each intake. Or near. And i tend to put my heaters parallel to the tank bottom as low as i can go so i don't have to worry about plugging/unplugging the heaters on every water change.

I'm not sure about the plecos, but the goldfish probably don't even need a heater.

It won't overheat the tank?

Mine are as far down as they can go, I'm just worried about overheating. It's winter here so the temp outside stays between teens to 30's and it stays 72-77 in my house daily. Normally is around 75

I've read that also but they have always had one since I got them and to me the tank water is always cold and I don't want them "freezing" lol

I've had goldfish live outside in cattle troughs for years, with the top occasionally freezing over for several days at a time.

If your house is 75 so will the tank. Get a thermometer to check the heater temp when you get them. That will be fine for goldfish.
