Best Moss For Carpet Wall?

Looking to use some of my tank walls by hanging some Moss that has been tied to Plastic Canvas like this:

Curious what the best moss for the job would be for water that is 77F & PH 7.6 . I would need it to be CO2 injection friendly. I see most people use Java Moss on YT but I'm not sure if that is due to cost and availability or rate of growth.

I plan to buy some of the canvas and suction cups at my local Hobby Lobby and tie the moss with either sewing thread or 6# fishing line. Due to the shape and height of my tank walls I could hang maybe (3) 12"x 12" pieces.

I tried it about 6 weeks ago I used Java Moss. Just had so much. Checked the vids and researched, consensus was use superglue. Utter fail for me, I used superglue to attach. But once cured and into tank, the white was unsightly. Decided to put in grow-out tub. Did not grow. Will try again but will use the fishing line method. Hope this helps. Good Luck. Post a pic when you have it completed.

Weeping and Christmas work nicely for walls... subwassertang as well.

Are you suggesting they would be ok for my water 77F & 7.6? Moss seems to be hard to find in the LFS sadly the prices on Aquabid reflect that fact.

That's some nice flame moss.

Ppl seldom think of flame moss for walls.
I’ve done java and Xmas and those have a problem of the top outgrowing the bottom and shading the lower half as well as growing away from the mesh. You could trim the top, but I don’t sell those 1” trimmings so I prefer not to trim. Tho I do use trimmings as freebies to ship shrimp.

This java wall is the sandwich method using two sheets of canvas. #5 darice canvas 8”x10” I think it was

Originally I was going to sell entire walls, but they don’t look great unless trimmed to promote uniform growth and I’d just as soon let it grow out and sell golf balls than waste moss trimmings.

Left side is Xmas moss done sandwich. Also top heavy growth. Right side is natural moss creep onto wall, mixed java and Xmas that used to be attached to wood/rocks. Back wall are actually ledges, not moss walls.

Flame moss has much more minimal horizontal growth, keeping it more wall like than other mosses.

Very informative and helpful. I have some Java on order but will keep in mind what your suggesting here. Question for you about the top shading the bottom. Can you "flip" the panel when the top starts to outgrow the bottom?

I’ve tried that, but it hasn’t been long enough. I made the sandwich walls back in June. I’m imagining the flip will cause a growth that will look like a big cube of java moss lol.

The moss creep up the right side of my spec v has been developing since I got the spec a year ago. There is no instant success with making moss walls.

Just an update. Got my 1/4 pound of Java Moss and items needed to hang it on the tank walls. Managed to get super glue on almost all of my fingers as was not wanted but pretty much a given. Building the brown tubes to be slid onto the branches coming off of my stump in the tank. Going to be tough working with the 6 pound fishing line with my eyes and super glue coated finger tips but if it were easy I would be doing other things I suppose. Will try and post up some pics when I get these into the tank.

The brown one is going to slide over a branch sticking off the side of my stump in the tank. I will have 2 of them when done. After doing the carpet walls I may do a half circle with a flat bottom and set it in the tank.

Since I had to break down and remove my stump from the tank to capture some Odessa's I thought I would take some pics of what I'm talking about with the tubes. Oh and the glue turned out to be a cruddy idea..it was messy and didnt stick as I had hoped. So I threaded it with fishing line and a home made needle .. so much mo betta

Why not thread the moss directly to the tree. It would look more natural.

once the moss grows out you will not see the mesh. The way I'm going to do it I can rotate 360 or flip the tube 180 to level out the growth. Maybe some day I will thread some on.. but for now I will do this. Fact the tube could also be laid on the bottom as a fish tunnel for some of the smaller fish after grown out. Not sure this moss will take to well to the CO2 injection and amount of light I'm throwing at it.. this is more a test than anything.

Just an update on the Moss to serve as a "Before" to compare against the "After" to be posted at a later date. I took psalm18.2 's thoughts on the tubes and instead of the tubes I actually just impaled a large clump onto one of the pertruding limbs, pulled it around to the other limb and then let it expand out and relax. The moss seems to be staying put and the fish are in love with it. Esp the Cherry Barbs. I don't know if they were having flashbacks from being a fry but the went right to it and swam around inside it like a 2 year old with a blanky. The Moss on the walls is doing well with lots of nice growth. I haven't rotated them 180 degrees yet but probably in another week so as to try and promote equal growth. Other than that I have no complaints. You might notice I did wrap the black intake line for my FX canister with the Blue Mesh and moss.. even if the moss failed the blue mesh took away most of the eyesore. Its a darker area in my corner tank so growth may be slow. I have another 3' light bar on order though.
