Best Heater For 6 Gallon?

Yesterday I made my monthly stop to the fish store to pick up some mandatory maintenance stuff and I was also grabbing stuff for my 6 Gallon. I picked up a new heater, a MinI Heater MH150, that was recommended for 5-10 gallons. That heater managed to raise my water temperature too high and the only way to turn it off was to unplug it. Huge pain in the butt. So now, I turn to the fish freaks of FishLore Forums to help me find a heater.

I like the aqueon brand from petco. IME, small tanks heat up more than larger ones. So I keep the temperature on the heater about 10*F lower than what I want it.

In my old 5.5g, I kept it set at 72*F and that heated the tank to 82*.

 

I have the Tetra HT10 and it works pretty good in my 5.5 gallon. Keeps it at 78 and drops about 2 degrees when it's very cold. Since it gets very cold, I'm planning to upgrade to a Cobalt.

 

For a tank that size, you might look into using one of those reptile heating pads.

That would be in the 50w of course

My fish are also sitting without a heater at home right now. I am at work and they have no heater I would rather have them sitting at room temperature than frying.

The Cobalt is hands down the best I have ever used ...but its not cheap- I even have a Cobalt 25 watt in a 3 gallon fish bowl with a Betta and I check temp every day- 78 on the nose...

Yup, just got mine yesterday. Definitely not cheap. I'm like so poor now.
