Best BBS alternatives

Hey! I want to get opinions on what is the best alternatives to BBS for feeding fry. Currently I'm looking into micro worms.

I will be trying a second attempt at breading my Honey Gourami and also my Ember Tetras. I have to leave home a day or 2 once and a while for work so I want to have a food source that doesn't need to be remade daily like BBS. I have a friend that feeds my fish while I'm away but does not mess around with trying to mix and hatch BBS

Any suggestions would be great! Also how or where I can get a starter culture. Thanks

Microworms can easily be acquired for cheap on aquabid, ebay, or sometimes a local aquarium club. Vinegar eels could also be helpful. However...both honey gourami and ember tetra fry are born too small to take either microworms or vinegar eels for at least a few days and perhaps as long as a week, so you will need to culture infusoria.

When I raised black paradise fish and banded bushfish fry, I cultured infusoria by placing about 1-1.5 quarts old aquarium water in a cleaned 2 liter soda bottle with the top cut off, add some rabbit food, and leave it outside or in a window for a few days before harvesting. To harvest, I simply suck a small amount out with a turkey baster and pour this into the tank a few times a day. Be forewarned that infusoria cultures almost invariably smell awful...

I have heard moina works well as a brine shrimp alternative, but they would need more room than any of the above. I have not tried them yet but am planning to experiment with culturing them outside next summer.

Thanks for the replys! I do start off the fry with infusoria. I fed my last batch of fry for about 1 1/2 with infusoria before switching to BBS.

Looking for a low maintenance alternative to BBS once the fry are big enough. I tried with different packaged fry starters but fry would not eat it.

Infusoria, green water, daphnia and I heard paramecium is also great.

Is paramecium as small as infusoria?

Paramecium is one of the critters that composes the infusoria...basically, yes I have also heard of using 'sponge grunge'...basically, squeeze a mature sponge filter into a container, wait a few minutes for the dirt to sink to the bottom, and then gather the water above the dirt with a turkey baster and feed that to the tank. Infusoria abounds in sponge filters, and while this is probably insufficient to raise a brood unless you have multiple sponge filters lying around, it would be helpful.
