Best Aquarium Suggestion (~29 Gallon)

Hello all,

I'm a beginner, replacing a glass tank whose dimensions are 30" long, 18" high, and 12" deep.
What I've seen so far seems to point to about a 29 gallon aquarium. It appears that a kit would be my best bet to get started because it comes with everything I need to get started. Technically, I guess I could try and restore the tank that is present, but it is so "corroded" that I think the fish would have a better chance at survival with a new start. I'm leery of some residual gunk that would affect the fish.

I'd like this to be a community aquarium with fish that will live well together. Right now, I'm looking to get the aquarium set up and running well before considering fish. Any help is appreciated.

Please suggest a good aquarium!

Gourami, Danios or tetras, bristle nose pleco, KuhlI loaches, and maybe some guppies.
Hi,
Thanks!
Can you also recommend a 30"X18"X12" tank?

I'd see about getting a second hand aquarium. The heaters and filters that are typically included in a kit are not great, so most of the time you end up needing to purchase new ones. On top of this if you want to grow medium-higher plants, then a kit light will simply not be enough. Thus you have potentiality of needing to buy multiple extra things, which would likely add up to more than if you were to just buy everything separate.

This being said, if you get a second hand tank, a fair amount of the time the seller will already have a decent setup or at least be selling the tank and stand cheap. Allowing you to spend less in the whole of it.

Petsmart makes good kits with tank, lid, LED, heater and filter. It is their Top Fin brand.

They have a 29 gallon version that may fit your needs.

Petsmart routinely puts their Top Fin brand "Essentials" kits on sale for 20% - 50% off.

Many times their in-store price on the tanks are lower than the website.

This is not usually the norm because most of Petsmarts in-store fish hobby products cost more in-store vs. online, though the cashier will price match.

Dwarf gourami's have a fantastic shape, well sized and suited for a community tank as long as you don't put too many of them together. The perfect setup for a 30 gallon would be plants, logs so the fish can set territories. 2-4 dwarf gourami's, you could do rams, guppies or tetras to fill the rest of the space. I wouldn't personally recommend a pleco since my one is fantastically hard to feed. Any and all veggies, tablets I drop in for him are gobbled up by the guppies, angels etc in my tropical community tank. They are also nocturnal and grow huge, so if you don't need one don't get one it's almost always not worth your troubles.
