Best aquarium lid and light?

Is it better to get a glass lid and a light that goes on top above the lid or a hood with a light built in? I think I would like the look of the glass lid better but will it mess up the light in anyway? Which is better? Im new to keeping plants so is there anything I should know about lighting for plants?

My tanks have glass lids. Doesn't seem to affect the light. I do wipe them clean before putting them back on each week after I change water.

I am sure you'll get different responses, personal choice. Also depends if you have fish which are jumpers.
All my tanks have "Glass" or even poly carbonate lids with lights on top. No issues and have good "Plant Growth". I did buy a canopy for my 55g but... it got to be a pain in the ... had to remove to do tank maintenance.

Here is what I use:
Aqueon Aquarium Glass Top - Fish Tank Lid

Good Luck with whatever you decide on.

For plants a full spectrum light is great, basically it has many colour of light

I just use a glass lid with another light to attach, rather than the provided light I'd get from a closed hood.
