Best 20 gallon Tank brands

Ok, some small backstory. I'm planning a tropical Freshwater build. I was formerly going to do a reef tank but 1.) I don't have that kind of money and 2.) I don't have the space for a tank that size. When I was asking people of reef tanks they were very particular about the kind of tank I got. In other words, going to Petsmart and picking up a Top Fin kit was a big no no.

Is that the same case for freshwater or is a tank a tank a tank? Does it matter? I'm doing a 20 gallon long btw.

Not really, though certain brands are considered better than others. TopFin is not one of them.

If you're in the US, you can get a 20 gal long Aqueon tank for $20 from Petco (and often Petsmart will match their prices).

Wow that's a good price. I'll certainly swing in and take a look for sure, thanks!

Ok so the consensus is that Top Fin is just the worst. Will avoid like the plague.

Oops, I mistyped. $20 for 20 gal long. $29 for 29 gal ($1/gal)

I thought that sale ended on the 7th.

It'll come back in a few short months. They do it a few times a year.

It just ended 8/7/16 so you will have to wait 2 months usually! Aqueon is usually the best brand! I would not buy a kit since usually the filter and lights aren't adequate for a fully stocked and planted tank. I believe 20 gallons at Petco and Petsmart are around $33 when its not the $1/gallon sale I'm not sure about a 29 gallon although I would suggest getting a 29 gallon since it has the same foot print just taller.

For your build we can help you with equipment and the stocking!!! DO you have any ideas for filter? I suggest the AquaClear 50. For filtration you want a gph of 180. I suggest buying your equipment online since its cheaper and you can see the review for the product. The pet store can usually be $5-15 more. AquaClear filters are a bit more expensive but worth it!!!

In my opinion aqueon tanks and aquaclear filters are the best.

Just curious, what are the differences in tank brands?
Tempered glass? Failing seams?

There are small size differences, and I think glass thickness. There are some that have different types of glass (tempered vs. non tempered) too, but I think that's more as you get into the specialty tanks (rather than the standard ones).
