Quite intuitive, but wouldn't a sponge filter work better? Or at least look more appealing in my opinion.
How much water is that? 1-2 qt/L?

A sponge filter is a different type of filter that is powered by an air pump, and the unit itself is basically just a sponge or group of sponges over tubing that filters while still protecting anything tiny like baby snails, fish, or shrimp. They're super cheap on amazon, if you're actually interested in getting one. Is that the tetra whisper 2-10I I see? I've got one of those filters in a box from my old 2.5 gallon tank and it looks very familiar.
Edit: If you are actually going to use this as a snail hatchery, I'd consider swapping filters. You definitely need a pair of pantyhose or something similar over the intake, or the little snails will get in the impeller and get crushed. For something like this that would be put to use, I'd either to a sponge filter or just stick a mesh breeder box in the main tank. I went the breeder box route because I'm very afraid of babies and filter intakes...

Here're my clutches floating on styrofoam in a mesh breeder, which in turn is in my 10 gallon shrimp/snail tank.

It is a tetra filter and will panty hose work?

That's the breeder box I'm using too! But it's in my 36 gallon bowfront tank and the metal clips were too small, so it's secured with thick yarn and two heavy duty suction cups.
