Before and after Glofish gravel

hoopyfrood

I know how the forum feels about artificial deco, but I was super depressed when I began my aquarium journey and I was sure the bright neon gravel would be cheerful to look at. And it was, but that was before I fell in love with my mystery snails. (There are fish in my snail tank!) I have spent hours gazing at them and taking photos, and the bright gravel was too distracting. That's right folks, I just replaced 30 pounds of substrate to take pictures of SNAILS.

Live plants will be coming in the next few weeks, so I knew it was time. But now my tank is kind of....boring?

The plants will probably take care of that for you. I don't pay a lot of attention to my substrate except at water change time. I am more interested in the plecos and snails that may be cruising on it! Or feeding...

I really like floating plants to make a statement. The long roots are just amazing. I have water lettuce but frogbit gets the long roots too
