Beautiful Koi, Any Thoughts?

Hello. I found this guy in petco the other day and couldn't resist. I love koibettas and the coloration on him is beautiful, atleast in my opinion. Any thoughts on if I should breed him or not?

He is beautiful, I love Koi bettas too.
I wouldn't recommend breeding him though unless you have space for literally thousands of tanks or cups and time to clean them.

I have the means to do so, and the time to maintain the tanks. Its just a matter of finding a good female koi. Someone told me to try halfmoon females to.

Breeding bettas is not something to take lightly
You'll need live foods, 100+ heated jars for males and aggressive females, the time to do daily water changes, and the means to rehome babies. To do it right, it will cost you upwards of a thousand dollars.
Breeding should not be done "for fun" or to "make money"(you're lucky if you break even), breeding should only be done to improve the species.
Since he's a pet store betta, I wouldn't breed him. They tend to have unknown genetics(with him being a koi it's likely he's from a koi spawn) and are usually not as healthy as fish from breeders due to the way they are cared for as fry. If you are serious about breeding, it's best to start with a good quality pair from a breeder.
A HMxHMPK is only recommend if the plakats analfin is too short, it will help lengthen it, as well as the other fins.
Your boy seems to have good length fins, but I'm not sure how show quality he is without seeing a side picture of him flaring. He also has some blue iridescence, which is an undesirable trait. So you want to breed bettas: Responsible Breeding Step by Step guide to breeding Bettas
(This isn't exactly how I breed, but it's a good start)
Have you researched the breeding process at all?

I briefly looked over the breeding process before, but the guides you posted were definitely more informative.
My thoughts on breeding him were to spawn more kois and see if they develop any special traits of their own, or better coloration compared to my male. Ill definitely give it more thought and try to thoroughly plan and budget if I decide to go through with it.
Any idea. If the blue iridescence would pass on to all of the spawn? And as a pet store beta, how is he compared to bred kois. Ive never encountered a breeder and the only sight I get of bettas are at pet stores, and even then, I hardly ever see kois.

The blue iridescence is a dominant trait and would most likely be passed onto the offspring, it can eventually be bred out of the line, but it is very hard to do.
Can you get a picture of him flaring?
Here's a good example of a show quality HMPK, he's not a koi, but his fins are nearly perfect.
A traditional koi(like your boy) should have black and red(or orange) over a white or cellophane body, any more or any less colors makes the fish a marble.
You'll be able to find breeders online, I don't have any near me either. Importing from breeders in Thailand is also an option, but not many people want to go through it to get a fish.
I would check aquabid and ebay(just watch and see where the fish are located and make sure the seller has as close to 5 stars or 100% good feedback as possible), as well as eugene fish store.
