Battery Powered Freshwater Tank

I've had fish for 30 years or more and have always done filtration the easy way - connected to a plug. However, I'm spending a couple of months in a home without steady mains electric, and am just wondering if anyone has a good solution? There are no plug sockets in this house, so I've got to attempt a battery version. I have two small tanks, 25L and 55L. I'll come across as utterly ditsy here, but never mind: googling 'battery powered filters' has generated lots of filters that have plugs, and highly complicated home-made devices that involve soldering irons and all sorts of things that are beyond my scope of experience. Neither of these extremes is going to work. Does anyone have a simple solution? Can a fish tank be done without being connected to a wall?

I think you can get battery powered air pumps so you could use sponge filters. You would have to keep fish that don't need a heater though

I run my tanks at home without electricity. Buy an inverter. That can be connected to a 12-volt battery and converts the battery-power to household current. We have several batteries connected together and charge them with solar-panels, but a less expensive solution would be to either buy a small generator to keep a battery charged or a small solar panel like you can buy for electric farm fences. (Try Ken Cove ? Ken Cove might carry those smaller, cheaper solar chargers.) You will likely want at LEAST two 12-volt batteries so you van run one for your tank while the other is charging. I hope this helps give you some ideas!

This is going to depend a lot on the type of fish you have, but I have four filterless tanks with tons of plants. Anacharis is the primary one for removing ammonia/nitrite/nitrate, as are floating plants. Takes a bit of trial and error to figure it out, it's a good idea to start doing it with some hardy fish, eg a betta

Thanks so much! I hadn't thought of coming up with a plant concoction, but that makes absolute sense. As does solar charging, and using an airator. I'll try that combination and see how it works
