Battered Angelfish

A friend of mine has an angelfish that has been butchered by other fish... so I’ve taken it home and put him in my tank and hopefully he comes good. The poor thing has lost both his fins.
Can someone help and tell me what to do? He seems fine, like he’s eating and swimming like normal and he’s even being snappy at angels smaller than he.
Do I just add a little melafix to my tank or?

thank you

Well, I assume as long as he swims okay and he doesn't seem to have any issues (such as the filter blowing him around) he should be fine. As long as he doesn't exhibit any signs of finrot everything should be okay.

If you do medicate him, I'd do it in a hospital or quarantine tank, I have heard Melafix can be harmful to certain fish. In fact I'd do more research just to be sure your using the right stuff.

Right now you need to be doing daily 25% water changes. I would also add in some Indian almond leaves because they produce tannins which are anti bacterial. Melafix does nothing and I’ve actually seen it kill a betta before so I wouldn’t use it. Because he’s in a fragile state meds could kill him so I would hold off on them unless he’s getting worse.

Edit: Also lower the water level and remove any potentially aggressive fish.

Great, tbanks for your advice. I do have some Indian leaves too. How many, as they have are quite large.

I would add in two leaves to start with and add more until the water seems to be a light brown color.
