Basics on Planted Tanks??

LucieGuppy13

Hi everyone! So, I've been interested in incorporating live plants into my tank for some time now, but I've been really overwhelmed when trying to do research. I don't really know anything about it. Most of what I see is advice on easy plants and good substrates, but I'm not sure I even understand how aquatic plants grow. If I get a plant and stick it in my regular old blue gravel, will it grow? My lights aren't very bright and I'm just looking for a low tech setup (don't want to get involved with fertilizer and C02). Where do I begin? Need new substrate? Is it deep enough? I have a 10g betta tank, and want to upgrade his life and maybe make the tank look a little nicer in the process.

Java ferns, anubias or mosses will probably do fine in your tank
