no the bala sharks wont go well with African cichlids due to the sharks being timed and the cichlids aggressive as has been said the red tailed black shark can but its a risk I wouldn't do it my self but other people do and it works for them

Probably not. They're fragile as babies, they can be skittish as adults and could launch out of the tank or hurt themselves. Could try pink tailed chalceus if you have a very big tank lol. Just make sure you do PLENTY of research whatever you do.

And to home 4 or 5 you would need well over 300 gallons.

Pink-tailed Chalceus are just as skittish as Bala Shark, likely to launch fatally into the lid or glass sides and reach a similar large size.

Bala Shark are not very suitable for aquaria due to escaping from perceived danger at awesome speed. Only a few have succeeded in extremely large tanks. There is one owner who has a 17" one. Most have lost them to accidents and stopped keeping them.

I dont think this is accurate, a 6 foot tank is all you need. 125 or 150 would do.

I disagree, not for 4 or more.
You would need room for them to actually swim without crashing with one another.
They are skiddish and extremely fast!
My bala has killed several fish over her ramming them.

Now that I think about it they would need a 6ft tank that's at least 3 feet deep. 18" wouldn't be enough for a full grown to turn comfortablely in.

I would not put balas in with africans either. Balas need big tanks and pretty careful considerations of their tankmates as they're a little bit of a spaz haha!
