5 Gallon Tank Baffle for a Mini Might Internal Filter

I need to baffle the output of a minI might internal filter. Previously, I tried to add a filter sponge next to the filter cartridge in the filter, but the filter stopped working.

I have a 5 gallon Aquarius Kit with this filter and a betta. I have noticed that the filter seems to push him around a bit, so I wanted to try and baffle it.

I have a filter sponge that I want to attach to the filter output. What is the best way to attach the sponge? String? Rubberband? Floss?

As the sponge will be on the filter output, will any beneficial bacteria grow on it in this location?

I'd try the rubber band. Not attactive, but it should grip a little on the plastic. Make sure the sponge is a fairly open grade, you don't want to make the pump work too hard pushing the water through it.

You will certainly get bacteria colonising the sponge. It lives on all the sufaces in the aquarium and substrate. Not just in the filter.

Thanks Teleost.
So the rubberband won't leach anything into the water?

Not normally. They do degrade though. You'd want to check it regularly - like when you do a water change or clean your filter media.

If you could get a cable tie to hold, it would be a little neater and not prone to degradation.
