Bad Trauma In Fluval Flex Tank

As you may know, the flexes are known for getting fish stuck inside the internal filters. The intake compartment in my flex has an air stone at the bottom and inside has lots of sharp and jagged edges that stick out a lot. My betta managed to jump into this compartment and was there for about 2 hours or less. After removing him, his fins are a little ripped and have a few holes. But worse of all, there is serious damage to his head. It looks as if all scales were scraped off, then a lot of tissue.

My main questions are, will he recover both physically and mentally and extra things I can to to assist the healing?

Hi RioMilano
Welcome to fishlore.
Keeping the water fresh with multiple water changes lowers the risk of infections.

Using Indian almond leaf ( IAL ) is highly recommended as an anti bacterial solution.

Keep up with your weekly water changes but do a couple of extra partial temperature matched conditioned water changes each week.

Thanks for the reply. I always do temp matched w/c every time, only thing is I just cant get my hands on real IAL. I bought some a while back but didn't seem to do anything and looked nothing like the real deal. I have been reading small levels of ammonia recently so until I can get a stronger pump from eheim I have been double dosing prime and 50->25% w/c every 2 days simply as a caution. Then this tragedy goes and happens :(
He is in the tank with 3 albino corys. They seem to get on quite well although I will be moving them to a 20g long with 3 more when I get chance. He can still swim well and ate after the incident after giving him the opportunity.

Rooibos tea bags are an alternative . They are made from a totally different plant than ordinary tea.
I have every confidence in them .

IAL extract is sold in liquid form.

oh no! Sorry to hear about your betta and his injuries :( bought some recently for a fin damage issue with my betta. I will say they are HUGE. So cutting in half of thirds should suffice in smaller tanks and last you longer.
