Baby tears overgrown!

Hello. So, I have a 55 gallon planted tank. It’s CO2 injected, and has about 5 or 6 live plants growing in there. Before I filled the tank, I grew some dwarf baby tears. These plants were absolutely stunning. I grew them up for about 2 weeks in a very humid environment, and then filled the tank. I was really proud of the tank. After about a week or two, the baby tears started growing SO much. It was too hard to maintain. I had it like that until today (obviously trimming it) but it just didn’t look good. Today, I scooped as much out as possible. Can anyone tell me why? I have a really high quality full spectrum light on there for planted tanks. What happened to the baby tears?

I’m very sorry. I took it all out today and don’t have any previous pics. I’m over it now, I just wanna know what happened. It grew so much and the leaves were so much bigger than they are supposed to be.

Wait... did you buy them as seeds?

Yes, I did. I raised them in the tank, covering it with a glass lid and spraying it daily.

Not dwarf baby tears then. Baby tears are always tiny tiny. Basically none of the aquatic plants in the hobby are grown from seed commercially. It isn't done.
Dwarf baby tears also spread outwards by runners, and the seed plants are always individual plants that do not spread. They are sometimes not aquatic or then they grow into stem plants. Sorry

Yep. They have stems. They did spread though. I’ll have to do some further research. Thanks for your help!

Agreed with -Mak-, you were another victim of aquarium carpet seed scammers.

Real baby tears are only available as mats, pots, or tissue cultures, and are demanding plants that require CO2.

Dang. That really sucks. They were pretty expensive too. Thanks for the help.
