Here is how mine changed overnight. Pic on the left is 24 hours (last night) pic on right is this morning.

Since they're on a very similar schedule I thought I would share

edit: its really hard to tell with my pics too....the glare or something. There are no white eggs on the left. And then on the right, as you can see a lot of eggs were removed/eaten. And there is a small group of white eggs at the top of the pile

Yeh I can just about make that out! I ordered some Methylene Blue earlier so that'll be here tomorrow. Hopefully save the eggs I do have left! To be honest, I'm saying I don't have many, but if all these were to hatch it would be chaos!

You should have seen my very first spawn ever! The parents learned after that spawn that they laid WAY too many eggs and every time they spawned after that they laid about half as many because clearly they were overwhelmed by that huge batch. All of the fry made it to free swimming point in that spawn, and mom and dad had a heck of a time keeping them together!

I tried to leave them with mom and dad and they all slowly died off because the water was not as pristine as it needs to be for fry and I didn't have live BBS (and there were some bottom feeders in the tank that most likely were eating them at night because the babies tend to sleep on the ground sometimes) Basically, I had no idea what I was doing, so unfortunately but the time I realized I had to move them out of there, I only ended up salvaging 4 of them. I still have 3 of them today (I gave one away)....they are nice and big and healthy

My point of the story is I know exactly how you feel. I was facing like 200+ babies at one point! I will have to post a pic of them all when they were still wigglers attached to the leaf. I have never ever seen such a large batch from ANYONE I have seen a lot of pics online but nothing like this spawn!. So I have a feeling mom and dad learned their lesson after that! HAHA and as I said before, that is a lot of the reason I wait a while before I move the fry because I can't care for a super large spawn. My last spawn of 27 was perfect!!

I am thinking about moving my current batch as soon as they start wiggling. They don't have a very large group right now and by tomorrow night when they start to become wigglers, the group will probably be even smaller.

I'd love to see a picture !

I left my last batch in my community tank and all were eaten within a day, not even one left in sight haha! My angels looks so upset when I stole their eggs but I'm sure they'll appreciate it if I return a couple to the tank k when big enough not to become a snack

In the third picture the babies are at the free swimming point but Mom and Dad were trying to keep them in one place and they end up in bundles like that. Lol that first and 2nd picture gives you the best idea of how many there were. And that's just how many actually hatched!

Wow that first picture is crazy!! In an ideal world I guess I'd have 10-20 free swimmers to raise

Maybe it would be smarter for you to leave them in the main tank next time and then take out a handful when they start free swimming and then let the rest fend for themselves? They may likely die (the ones left behind)...BUT...If the parents are going to lay eggs every 7-10 days....you have to accept the fact that you can't raise that many babies. And they wouldn't all survive in the wild...right? And by leaving some in there with the parents, they will wait longer before they lay more eggs.

I sold my first angel pair, so right now I just have my dream pair who are still trying to figure it out. We'll see how this round goes. But where I am going with that is, I really like my current pair TOGETHER and I have no intention of getting rid of either of them, so I am facing two choices....Once I get myself a nice spawn from them, I don't intend to keep breeding them on a regular basis. I am not making a business out of it and finding homes for tons of babies every couple months is just too much. So...my two choices are to separate the parents (which I really don't want to do), or let their babies/eggs keep dying every 2-3 weeks!

What do people do in that situation? yes it is fun to breed angels and raise them, but not constantly!! So do people just remove the eggs every time they get laid? or what?

My angels are in a community tank with tetras, platys, and corys so they get eaten as soon as the lights are out!

This is more of an experience for me thank anything, like having knowledge of stuff like this just in case I need it in the future. I'll likely give all my angels away to my LFS when a reasonable size and just let the eggs get eaten going forward

Ok here is how mine have changed since I turned the light on this morning...about 6 hours ago. You already saw the left picture in my previous post but I figured a side by side the progression in 6 hours was better the parents removed a lot more! Including the big white bundle...

well this morning all that is left is maybe 5.....they hatched overnight so they are wiggling....but there are only 5 left. Last night when I went to bed there were like 40 good eggs on there! I don't understand these two! This is the same thing that happened last time. By the time they hatched, all the parents had left were 4.

How about you MarkN1990 ? Where are things at for you and your eggs today?

Not good news from me! All eggs have called off the slate and are pure white. Can only assume they weren't fertilised. Going to get the slate back in the tank and let them have another go at it! Keep me updated on your eggs though very interested to see the timescales

Bummer, well at least now you have some time to prepare for the next batch

When I stop home on my lunch break, I am considering moving the few wigglers that are left before mom and dad eat them too!! I wanted to move them this morning, but I had to get to work! I guess it depends on what I find in a few hours when I stop home!!

I have one baby that I was able to salvage from these two parents... "the lone survivor" and I moved him at this exact same point in the last cycle. He is doing great, he's been free swimming for 3 weeks and looks like a nice big angel! (even though he is pea sized). So since I know I can succeed moving them before they start swimming, I think I will do it again.

I'll let you know what I find in a few hours and what I decide to do about it!!

Well I'm home for lunch, they're all gone :-( I'm not sure why the parents aren't understanding this. They always start out so well for the first couple days and then get lost. Boo

My first batch of BBS successfully hatched!

Rcslade124 shared a do-it-yourself setup to accomplish the same thing, but I ended up getting a hatchery from BrineShrimp Direct.

Seems to work well.

I actually got 2 more batches at least the size of the picture above from the same hatch.

What did you use when you attempted it?

I think it was a couple of quarts of water and, uh, table salt lol. I was very young and didn't yet have a sw/brackish aquarium, so I had no "real" salt.
I was following instructions from a science kit I got.

I've always used a cup of water, poured some table salt in and added the eggs. They hatched alright, but then I don't have a way to separate the eggs so I can't feed them to the fish lol.

If it was iodized, the table salt could have been the deal breaker! I used aquarium salt.

Great username by the way!

Yep, I might have voted for Cheesecake.

Nice job Dunk2! What are you going to use them for?

I got them specifically for German Blue Ram fry (when and if they appear again) but my adults like them as a treat.

The other thing I did was splurged for the Premium eggs in addition to the lower grade eggs that came with the hatchery.

I will try the lower grade at some point to see if there is a difference.

I just use 2 old soda bottles with airline tubing. One quart of water + 1 1/2 teaspoons pure sea salt + 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.

Harvest with a paper towel/coffee filter and pipette.

Once one batch has hatched I feed those for a day and start a new batch, while that batch is hatching I have another one that is ready. Took me a few tries to get a good schedule down, but this is what works for me now. I need to buy more eggs, though! My betta fry love these little shrimp.

I heard about using baking soda, but didn’t for this first batch. Is it used to increase pH?

Yup; it increases and stabilizes pH.

I believe so. I've used it before without issues.

I was just doing a water change on my GBR tank. Although I didn’t realize there were even eggs in the tank, I saw at least 3 wigglers!

My timing is good for change. . . Got another batch of BBS brewing!

GBR wigglers!

So cute. R u going to sell them?

If I’m being honest, I haven’t even thought about that.

This is only the second time they’ve reached the wiggler stage (after MANY spawns) and GBR are pretty difficult to raise. So we have a long way to go yet!

I can’t find the wigglers today , but a different pair spawned last night.
