Baby Bettas With No Ventral Fins

some of you may have seen my other thread, about these guys!
IMG_5265.JPG
my precious un-wanted, imperfect, beautiful babies! a little backstory! couple of weeks ago I wandered into the local petco... to find a TANK of baby bettas! with the sign... assorted baby bettas- adoption fee 2.00... what a weird surprise! anyway.. I looked at the cute little guys, thought to myself, no! you are cycling your tanks! no fish! not yet! soo I left. I wandered back two days ago, just browsing, after all, isn't that why we usually go andddd I stumble upon the babies again! what! they are still here! soo I thought to myself.. can I scrape together 2.00 to take home a baby betta? I think yes and I grabbed a 2.5 on the way home. get him all set up, and wow! look at the cutie!
IMG_5143.JPG his name is Mist!

next day, I had to go to doctor, for my back issues. after feeling very discouraged after leaving, I thought I needed a pick me up, maybe I could be a normal person, maybe I could just get a coffee, or maybe a little treat from dunkin' donuts, but nope! I decided to stop by petco! gotta look at those baby bettas! how cute they were! looking at me all bug eyed!

arggggg, this was a hard situation I put myself into. I knew I didn't have availability for them, it's not that I don't have the space, oh yes, I do, I have two empty tanks cycling! (can we take a moment to just realize how much we all hate cycling!!) but these babies just were just holding onto me like a pleco holds onto a piece of driftwood! just sucking the life out of me! so I did it. I grabbed three little ladies..
we have Cloudy, she's very curious, and likes to be in the middle, but will not stand against the pack leader...

IMG_5174.JPG
who is Stormy! this babe definitely lets everyone know where she is in the pecking order, and she is slightly bigger! she likes to pest someone specific...
IMG_5212.JPG
and that is Sunny! she's out shy girl, and she demands her food must be given to her on tong, brought right to her cave!

soo those were my babies, and what I had ended up doing was moving Mist into a 1 gallon I have, it doesn't have a filter, but I ordered a sponge filter while we wait on the cycling tanks! yay for daily water changes and I put the girls into the 2.5g. they were doing perfect until... I was reading my replies about a sorority tank, realizing I needed 5! so back to store we go! I picked up two more little babies! everybody meet...
Rainy! I haven't gotten to see much of her personally yet, but she has been hanging around Cloudy! sometimes with...

IMG_5272.JPG
Blizzard! she can be shy like Sunny, and likes to hang out with her in her little cave (see next pic!)

wow I am so off topic! back to the real question! so I was told by one lady that these came from someone who breeds for fun, and these were the runts and imperfect babies. while I can see their physical imperfections, I see way past that into their sweet personalities! but my question is, why would they not have ventral fins? Mist seems to have very nice ones, as did one other male in the tank. I also know they came in that why, meaning it wasn't a recent act of aggression. is it just a genetic mutation?

anyway, I hope you enjoyed meeting all the babies, and thanks for reading! if you want to have some fun and help me, you can guess their age, future coloring, tail type, and maybe help me confirm their gender status? i'm pretty positive I see an egg spot on all of them, and their little heads look like females too! of course I can't tell by their ventral fins! Lol!

bonus; here's Cloudy, i'm secretly hoping he's a dumbo!

When they don't have ventrals, it means that when they were young, it either got bitten off by another fry. But the most likely scenario is that the breeder fed microworms and the excess microworms decayed at the bottom of the tank and the bacteria eating those microworms burned off those ventrals because the fry usually lay at the bottom of the tank. They won't grow back, but they still act perfectly fine. Here's the link to the information Why my betta fries got no ventral fin?

Edit: They look to be around 3 months old. I can tell you their colourations, but it's confusing which names belong to who and which pictures might be the same pictures of the same betta. I have a hard time telling fin types on females.

Sunny and Blizzard will fit in the 'doesn't fit in a category/random colouring sploches'. Probably the same thing for Rainy, but I want to see the colouring on her head.

Mist actually looks like a female, as they seem to have a visible egg spot.
All of them seem to have the egg spot, so they most likely are all females, if I'm not mistaking (I would take this with a grain of salt, though, I could be wrong. I'd need someone else to confirm)

whatttt idk if I would happy or upset mist is a girl. I got him/her a few days before I got the other girls and s/he flared and went crazy when I put them in the breeder box. I thought that would be a for sure sign of Mist being a guy. I have lots more pictures, of that would help.
