I was at my lfs and they are selling betta fry I was wondering if the fry grew up in my community tank would it be less prone to aggression twords the other fish ?

I have mostly livebearers and shrimp in my tank

would this be a good idea of bad?

It depends entirely on the personality of the betta in question, male or female. Entirely. That's why it's a chance. You have to be willing to take the chance. I'm personally not. If it didn't work, I wouldn't suffer but my fish would. It's an unnecessary risk, in my opinion.

I'd go with no.

Raised in there or no, you run a serious risk of the betta going, well, beta.

It really depends on their personality. I have a full grown half moon betta in a community tank, but mostly with schooling fish. I don't think I would trust him with livebearers with their size and color.

You could try it and keep a close eye on him, but it only takes a second for things to go wrong.

Airey my VT grew up in a community tank with male guppies but I did keep a close eye on him. It was not until I got a female guppy did I have to move him to his own tank. Poor guy got the living daylights beat out him by her(she also killed all the other fish in the tank) but she never killed any of her fry which was strange. I now have a baby in with the 7 male fry I kept and so far everything is going great but than again it is heavily planted too. I will be watching him or her closely the next coming Weeks.

The whole "if it grows up with it, they will be fine" theory has been proven false with many animals.

Monkeys, chimps, bulls, alligators, constrictors, even elephants. Bettas are no exception, otherwise they wouldnt separate the males from the spawn ASAP.

I understand that I was just saying mine did great but not all will.
