Axolotl Tank Temperature

I recently got a axolotl for my mother's birthday, since she's been kinda obsessed with them for awhile. While I was setting up the tank and just going over axolotl care, and most websites that I found said that the water temperature should run at the in the 70's, lowest being 64. When I test the tank temp it was at 79, so I was wondering if that was too high, and if so, what could I do to lower the temp. The tank is currently in my living room in the corner.
UPDATE:
I managed to drop the water temp to 70 with ice cubes and a cold water change the tank is over a return for the a/c unit so I'm not sure if that will help. Is there any reliable chillers or more permanent methods to keep it cool?

79 is way too high. You can try the fan blowing over the tank thing. Its good for a few degrees. Ideally you will need a cooler. That's the biggest reason I haven't gotten one.

Thanks I'm thinking that what I'm going to have to do. I did put a heater in the aquarium and I plugged it in but I disconnected it when I found out it was on, the only reason I put it in the tank is for cold nights.

Oxolotl.org says your good to 60. Even lower for a short period. I don't know about you but I get cold long before that. So the heater probably isn't needed.

Axolotls are a pretty cold water species. You want to keep them in the 60-70 range so 79 is far too warm. I don't have a heater, just a filter for my axolotl. The previous owner scoffed at me and said something along the lines of "good luck finding a heater that goes that low (60)" which I found extremely amusing because they have no use for a heater unless the average household goes below 60F, which very few do.

If the temp stays above 70F I'd move the tank to a cooler location, put a fan over it or invest in a chiller. If you have an underground basement that would be a good place for the tank to be.

Yeah I do have a underground basement I think if I can't find another solution and fans don't work I'll have to move it there.
