Avoiding Nerite Snail Eggs

Hello!

I have several Nerite snails in my 75 gallon aquarium. They love to lay eggs EVERYWHERE, and it's extremely unsightly. I want some for my 50 gallon but don't want the egg pollution...

I believe Nerites aren't hermaphroditic and thus the males don't lay eggs. Has anyone found any way to easily tell a Nerite's sex? Leave them in a tank alone and see if they lay eggs?

Thanks!

I am right there with you. I never had a nerite snail before until a week ago. Next thing you know I started seeing white dots everywhere. Freaked me out as I am currently trying to cure ich with salt/heat treatment. I am hesitant in putting a nerite snail in my bigger tank as well.

They are terrible. The snails are beautiful, and hard workers. However, the white stuff doesn't look good on driftwood

There's no way to tell the sex without catching a female laying eggs

No way to tell till it starts laying eggs, but the good news is that they eventually stop laying eggs. It just might take months for that to happen.

It's so sad because I like the little nerite snail. Now my mossball is starting to have eggs all over it too grrrrrrr.

I haven't had a nerite snail for about 3 years now and I still have their eggs all over my driftwood! I love them, they are beautiful but never again!
