I just bought a pair of cockatoos cichlids, but they are pretty young, probably not even an inch long...I have them with two half dollar angelfish and two blue Rams......at what size do the cockatoos begin to show color on their fins? Oh and would my angels and rams pose any threat to these young guys? I haven't seen any aggression towards them, even though they are hiding in caves most of the time......I bought them both for nine dollars each...is that a good deal?

Cockatoo cichlids are a dwarf cichlid, as are rams. Water temp for these fish should be 79-84*. What size tank do you have? They will probably hide for a few days till they get used to their surroundings

I would say $9/each is pretty good, I think I paid $15 each for my german rams and about $20 each for my bolivians..

Oh, yeah that's fine. Make sure they have things to hide in if they want to, the rams and cockatoos will hang out towards the bottom

I would think they need to double in size at least before they start to have their adult colors

if you have a male, he should start showing color about 3/4" to 1". females generally do not have colorful fins but some get a little bit of color.

I have had cacatoo males showing color @ 3/4" before. you should be close if you have a male.
