Are Wardley Shrimp Pellets Suitable as a Staple Diet for Cories??

Hi, My Cories are currently on a Diet of HikarI Sinking Pelltes for Bottom Feeders, which they seem to be thriving on.

While at Wal-Mart yesterday I had Happened upon a Super-Sized Canister of Wardley Shrimp Pellets for about 3 bucks, the same price as the smallest bag of HikarI pellets.

The can says "Ideal for Catfish" and I have read a costumer review of the product stating that their Cories loved them.

Would this be suitable to use as a staple for my Cories while reducing the HikarI feeding to only once or twice a week?

This would be much more cost effective in feeding my Cats, but I also seek to keep them healthy and happy at the same time.

I would return it. My fish like the stuff and it has good ingredients but it is just too messy for my taste. Even with a barebottom tank I'm cleaning up the bottom of the tank every time I feed it. It just turns into powder within minutes and then the fish don't eat it.

I can vouch for them being messy. I toss in one or two pellets and my pleco makes an explosion out of them. Fortunately I have shrimp and piglet platys who clean up the extra.

I have yet to find sinking shrimp pellets I like..

believe it or not I have actually liked the aqueon ones, they don't just go to pieces right away. My shrimp, cories, plecos, guppies, khulis, SAE, Amanos, and more love them lol.

I haven't purchased them yet.

Are you saying that Cories won't eat them after they dissolve? Bc they're usually pretty good about finding EVERYTHING they can. At least mine are, One of mine sucked a worm up that had worked his way UNDER the substrate xD

If they are of quality and the Cories will eat all the tiny bits I wouldn't mind getting them. But I don't like a lot of mess in that tank, this is why I really don't want to feed flake either, so the poor Cats never really find any food on the bottom.

That's why I need something with quality ingredients just for them, Daily. So far, HikarI has filled that void.

I use the wardley shrimp pellets because they break up, makes it easy for everyone to get some, since all the fish like them. That way the cories .and shrimp get some and the loaches and plecos too. Plus thee blood parrots , platies, and guppies like to steal some.

HMMMMM!! Thanks for the tip!!

Is the link you sent the oficial site/safe to buy from?

Like I said, I am really just looking for a cheap everyday staple for my cories and at 5.50$ a half pound, it's a really great bargain!!

Thanks for your input as well Lexi, it gives a positive side to the negative, I have to double feed HikarI to keep my Gourami contempt lol

Good morning,

Yes, that is the official site for Ken's and it is safe. I haven't had any issues with Ken's at all.

Home page:

Sometimes he will even add samples in with your order, not all of the time but sometimes.

I've been using Ken's for about 2 years now.

It's $5.50 for 1/4 lb and not 1/2 lb. Still good quantity for the price. Good ingredients too.

Hey, You ARE Ken!! lol

Anyway, that is still a really good price, but the shipping kind of puts a damper on it. I'll look into Ken's foods more when I start running out of Gourami Food and see If I can bulk buy the two at once.

For now, I'm put back to my original question of Wardley's Shrimp Pellets. So far, I've heard some good and bad, but I'm neither sold nor put off to it.

LOL...yes my name is Ken but for the record, Ken's Fish Foods is not my site.

I'm sure when the time comes that you order from Ken's, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for the vouch, I'm sure I'll have no problems at all.

I see that they also have 500ml of Prime for 10 bucks.

Those look like a suitable less expensive replacement for my HikarI Sinking Wafers, but I'm still looking for some even cheaper stuff for an Everyday Staple.

With the stuff that I have (Wardley) it turns into powder. I mean it is just nasty. My corries refuse to suck up the powder and even my shrimp don't mess with it much. So I was kinda put off the stuff. I'm feeding it to my Koi right now. I mean all my fish love it for the first minute and a half its in the tank. Then of course it isn't solid anymore.

I can vouch for Kensfish. It is a great place to get high quality food from and he also has some really good ingredients in it. The trick is to order a large amount of stuff so the shipping doesn't cost so much in comparison to the amount of food you're getting.

Kens is a very nice site to order from, almost all my equipment purchases have been from his site since I found it. I have yet to start buying food from him but would not hesitate too at all.

My cories and shrimp hunt down every last bit of it. I tryed to switch to one that stayed togther longer, but they didn't want anything o do with that.

Hmm, Based on the information given by both Rouge and Lexi, it looks to me like I'm going to have to try it for myself and see how my particular fish like it.

From what I see in Yalls' responses, it's that it appears just to be up to each individual fish as to whether or not they like the stuff.

I guess that I'm going to try it and see if my Cories are going to like it or hate it, or if one or other likes/dislikes it.

For only 3 bucks, it wouldn't have been the worst investment that I've ever made if it all goes downhill.

And I'll post back with the results when I get them in, but that'll be next paycheck.

Get yourself a cheap turkey baster at the dollar store.
That way you can suck up any leftover shrimp pellet so it doesn't foul your water.

Thanks for the tip!

I have been using the "straw method" since I was about 10 years old, as far as I know, I invented this, but it's based of off simple sceince and reasoning lol.

What I do is get a straw, for deeper aquriums you would require a long pixie stick straw or peice of airline tubing, and place your thumb over one end while it is completely out of the water.

Once you have one end sealed/capped off with your thumb, place the other end into the aquarium directly over the peice of food/poo that you want to remove from your aquarium.

Lift your thumb up and rapidly replace it when you see water coming into the tube/straw.

The lifting action of your thumb will create a vacuum, sucking the water into the straw, which is where it wanted to be in the first place the air pressure sealed in by your thumb prevented it from entering into the straw until removal of the thumb.

It is important that you maintain your thumb sealed over the straw/tube the entire time while attempting to remove the waste that you have sucked up as this is what is containing the seal of the vacuum that you have created, allowing the water sucked up to remain in the straw/tube.

I say straw because this method was thought up during my uneducated "betta bowl" days, but hey, we live and we learn right?

I feed wardley catfish pellets. Seems to work just fine. Too, ill drop in some sinking granules for them to root out of the gravel.

are we talking about the same thing here?

I can't drop any sinking granules for them lol, my gourami eats them all, She's a PIG!!! xP

I've resorted to feeding my cats in the dark with double wafers so she'll have to leave them alone, if she finds one, they get the other.
