Are these new leaves growing on the existing leaves?

    i have some similar ferns and they're doing the same thing. i have no idea.

    I love that about java ferns. I think the term for this is vivipary. You can see the new little ferns uncurling from their parent leaf.

    This is an El Nino fern. Got it at Petsmart. Says it's fully submersible. Did some more reading and seems to be some debate it that. Anyway, had it for a month and now it's growing stuff.

    My water sprite produces in a similar manner, I think some call it Adventitious reproduction, where a new plant forms on the main one, eventually separating itself once it's grown enough to get nutrients on its own.
