Good tank mates? black Neons, Sparkling Gourami, Kuhli, and Otos

This is my first tank and I am looking for input about the fish and plants I am looking at getting.

Fish:
9 Ember tetra or Black Neons tetra
5 Sparkling gouramis
3 to 5 Kuhli Loach
3 Zebra Otocinclus Catfish

Plants:
Water Sprite
Retrospiralis
Pennywort, Brazilian
Bacopa australis
Wendtii, Bronze
Wendtii, Red
Sag., Dwarf
Java moss
Marimo Moss balls = Alge balls

Do these fish get along?

Will I be over stocking?

If you have any of these fish together in the same tank please tell me how there are doing together.

Thanks

Hello WaterPixie and Welcome to Fish Lore!

I don't see anything wrong with your stocking ideas. Not over stocked, I don't see any aggressive fish listed. None of them strikes me as herbivores so your plants should be safe.
Let's get some more responses to be certain as I haven't kept these fish personally. Just stating what I've seen and read in the past.

I hope you enjoy the site.

Welcome to FishLore!!

I don't think you'd be overstocked.

Of the above fish that you mention, I have Sparkling Gouramis and Otos. They all should be fine with Tetras and Kuhlis.
The Sparklers can get territorial if they pair up. In your size tank I don't think you'll have an issue.
I have mine in a 30g and they herd all other fish to one side of the tank. Fiesty for their size. lol
Mine are with Glowlights and Cardinals.

Good luck and post some pics when you're up and running!

Is there anything that you can tell me about the Sparkling Gouramis and Otos besides the normal stuff?

Is it true that Sparkling Gouramis do not like a lot of water movement in there tank?

I don't have a lot of water movement in my 30g. They can be shy so give them plants/driftwood to hang behind/under. When mine spawned they built the nest under diftwood. Both parents guarded the nest.
Oh and when the male gets territorial, they making a croaking noise. It's super cute, but you now one is mad when you here it. lol

How many Sparkling Gouramis do you have in your 30 gal?

Would they be happy just a pair of them in my planted community tank?

I am leaning towards the Black Neon Tetras do two there size and that they are easier to fine in LPS and LFS. The same with Otos. I will most likely go with the common variety, when my tank is ready for them.

Welcome to the forum!

I would only suggest more of each fish, since this is a 55 right?

Yes it is a 55gal.

What # would you suggest for each type of fish above in my list?

That would depend on whether you wanted to add any additional species. If you wanted to leave room for a few new kinds of fish, then I would only add a couple more kuhlis and a double the ottos.

If those are the only kinds that are going to be in the tank, then I'd at least double the numbers.

Kuhli Loaches are very reclusive fish. You might not see them much, but that means that when you do see them it will be a great treat. I made a little cave at the front of one of my tanks, that was relatively "dark" and the kuhlis love to escape to it.

If you are going to keep kuhlis, remember to use SAND and NOT GRAVEL. They NEED to burrow, or they will get all distressed and die on you.

Most Gouramis are VERY sensitive to nitrates in my experience. You will need LOTS of water changes to keep them healthy. Same thing with Oto cats. Maybe add them LAST when your tank is already really really stable.

Be sure to do a fishless cycle. None of the fish you list will survive even a mini-cycle. (You do know all about cycling, and the Nitrogen cycle, so you're good, right?)

I have sand and my kuhlis don't borrow in it. I know they're not burried cause they are always swimming around Are yours striped or solid?
