Are these Convict Cichlids Breeding?

I have 2 convicts (1 mail and 1 female). The female is inside the terra cotta pot. The male seems to be guarding the outside. I also have 2 albino oscars and 2 firemouths. The male convict seems to holding his ground against the other cichlids. what I don't know is, are they breeding or just taking over the pot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

jpetrilla: Beautiful pics! Convicts may be aggressive, but are great parents, and are like rabbits when it comes to offspring issues.
Is your tank info correct? 40 litres is way too small for all these fish. You have a perfect excuse to go into MTS: Keep the 40l for quarantine/hospital/fry tank, and research about tank requirements for your 2 Os, 2 firemouth and Convicts.

Thanks for the info, actually it is a 40 gal tank, not 40 litres, sorry, but I found her this morning inside a rock dead. I don't know what or who killed her, cuz all my levels are just about perfect and everyone else is doin ok. They are eating and swimming around good. I will take some water to the pet store today and get it checked just in case.

The oscars are too aggressive for firemouths and convicts, and they get way too big for a 40 gallon tank. They may not be very aggressive now, but as they get older they may become much more aggressive and kill the other fish

 

I wouldn't keep a pair of Oscars in anything less than 100gal.

Those Convicts are so beautiful, I'm terribly sorry you lost one.
