Are there any purple fish?

Not looking to stock my tank with them. More just curious. Are there any purple fish? Only ones I can think of are emperor tetras, and some rare breeds of guppies.

In the freshwater hobby, not really. There is a purple form of Rasbora Heteromorpha that's pretty nice.

I keep a purple morph of the harlequin rasbora. Really it's more of a black but it's close in the right lighting.

Here's a pair breeding in the background and another pair in the foreground.

Some bettas can have purple coloring in places. I bought a blue veintale that has started to develop red and purple accents and it's really pretty.

Oh yeah, I think I once saw a purple glofish in a store. Not sure if that counts or not

I wish there were more. Can you imagine how good a purple variant of something like a kubotai rasbora would look?

Pearl danios are pretty close to purple in my experience, IF the lighting source is to the front of the fish.

A good male Rusty Cichlid is pretty close to a lavender color. About the closest thing I can think of to genuinely purple. Just can't think of any small fish that are really purple.

The blue Kerri and blue/purple emperor look pretty purple. I've never kept one, honestly I don't think I've seen one in person.

Without debating pros and cons, the glofish have purple colors. We have a school of glo tetras in our community tank and they are great.

Emperor tetra, yes! I thought I see them purple because I am colorblind

How can you see them purple if you're colorblind?

There are some blue-purple variants of apistogramma trifasciata. Some other apistogramma species might have purple variants as well.

Rusty's would not be bad from the perspective of tank size, especially compared to most mbuna. I wonder if they would look more purple if front lit?

You think a colorblind person sees every color incorrectly? That's not the case. It is a matter of color combination, background and lighting. It can be very subtle.

If you get a Deep coloured Jack Dempsey they are sort of like a peacock. Scales are blue to the purple spectrum.
