Are polished stones safe to use

    Hey all im getting my rock tumbler back up and working and I was wondering if they'r safe to use in my tank :)

    Hi - I would say that depends on whether they have been dyed or not. My kids are always wanting this kind of thing from gift shops, etc. and I hate buying them, because these days, most are dyed. Its hard to tell, but if you break one or two open, you may be able to see that some level of 'dye front' has only penetrated the stone a bit, or look at the cracks (where the dye would go in 'further'). My fish store, which is very good and high-end, sells tumbled rocks, but these are the safe, natural type. If its too cheap, then yes, its probably been dyed. Real 'gemstone tumbles' are expensive.     Well I tumble the stones and I don't buy stones(use ones I find ) so I assume their safe :D

    Make sure they are clean. You should probably boil them.
