Hello all. I have an 8 gallon nano tank. It has live rock, hermit crabs, cerith snails, margarita snails and a couple peppermint shrimp in it with a small variety of corals. I was walking by my tank and happened to notice three margarita snails all stuck on eachother. They stayed in the same spot like that for about three hours. I would check on them periodically, the. All of a sudden they started moving around on eachother and the one in the middle started puffing out stringy white clouds, which I assume is sperm. This has been going on for about an hour now, and it’s happening so much it’s actually starting to cloud up my tank. Just wondering if I’m right about them mating since I’ve never heard of margarita snails mating in captivity. Thanks
From what you are describing with the cloudiness and behavior I’d say yes. This species has both a male and female and when mating they release sperm and eggs into the water Colombo where fertilization takes place.
