Are My Bettas Sick?

Hey, as you've all heard, I have 5 bettas in a 20 gallon tank. All are female with the exception of one being unknown, which I have secluded in a floating cup until my 10 gallon is ready.

At first I thought my koi was egg-burden because of her puffed up belly, but now my blue betta is puffy too. The white one is okay, and the one in the cup looks fine. The little pink one might be puffy, but also, she might just be young. She looks the same as when I bought her. What's your advice? Are they sick? Internal parasites maybe?

What do you feed them and how much? They all appear to have some sort of bloat. Possibly constipation or swim bladder disease.

Looks like constipation to me! I'd fast them for a few days and then if it doesn't pass try the pea trick.

I would try stopping all feeding in hopes they will defecate. If there are no changes within a few days I recommend feeding them about 1/2-1 cooked pea each. Cook the pea and remove the outer skin and cut into bite sized pieces. The fibre may help them to pass faeces and gas. If this works make sure you adjust their feeding accordingly. This will likely mean a different food and a variety of food that will help your bettas stay healthy. Pellets can be dry and overfeeding causes blockages.

If there are still no changes it is likely another problem.

Okay, I've already started the fasting this morning. They've started to scavenge on my plecos algae waffer remains. I'll clean it all up tonight when I do my water change and fast the (BN) pleco too.

It was indeed bloat! They all look good now. Thank you do much guys!!

I reccomend using brine shrimp or daphnia next time instead of peas because bettas can’t digest peas very well.

I had to remove bottom feeders from my betta sorority because my bettas were bloating from eating my corycats food. They are greedy. lol
