Are convicts jumpers?

Hey guys

I just wanted to know, I want to do an open top 29 gallon tank with lots of growth out the top.

I'm thinking of getting a couple of convicts and something else (not too sure what yet - recommendation if you have?). Will it be completely safe to have convicts in this tank. It will be filled to about 1/2" from the top of the glass and will have no coverage whatsoever!

Thank you!

They're not specifically known for jumping, that's not to say they couldn't jump if they get startled though.

Well is there anyway that I can help the situation along?

Or would angelfish be a better option for me here?

IMO, angels are most easily startled than convicts.

Okay well is there any kind of solution you might know of?

Perhaps species of fish that will work here?

Or would it just be simpler to lower the water level, or get some glass sliders on top?

Floating plants and many hiding places make for calmer fish.

Convicts like caves, so they might work, however if you are going to plant the tank you may want to stick to female convicts, and definitely not a pair as they will uproot your plants digging and nesting.

Okay thanks guys!

I'll see if I can find a solution here.
