if you have any questions regarding CPDs leave a message on danionins.com's profile. He breeds them and even has a website on them I think.

Thanks for the link, it said that in their natural home they had wide range of temperatures so I am guessing that they are hardy, but when I get my fish I will add the platies first just to be safe. I heard they are expensive.

how much fish are you planning on puttting in there?

10 gallon is pretty small in my book

they are fairly hardy but it just depends on where you get them from. They are really small in comparison to platies.

I keep a group of 8 or so in my 5 gallon fluval chI =]

That may be a bit much for a 10 Gallon imo. As for prices I usually see CPD's for $5 a pop. Thus why I haven't got into them yet. Not til I can spend the money to get atleast 5 or 6 preferrably 6

That's pretty high. I have them for $4.

CPDs are fairly hardy IME. I've kept and sold many and they are not a species that I typically have any trouble with.

mine were 8.99! I had 6 or 7 last spring...now I have 2. I also had 8 harlies, same time, and still have 5. so i'm not sure if they are the hardiest fish....but not the least either. I liked them =]

$4! That would be nice! There is only one store I know where I can get them and they charge $5 well $4.99 but yeah. I could order them but cost would end up higher anyway with the shipping charges.

Holy smokes! That's super high! I probably wouldn't be considering CPDs if they were that much! Or I would consider breeding and selling for that much! ;D

Maybe. I'm quite sure I could ship them for under $10. Mine are quarantined for a month or more before sale.

Mine were $1.50 a head and IME they are EXTREMLY active perhaps to much of a 10 gallon, mine looked cramped in my 20 gallon.

I've had bad luck buying this fish at my lfs. 12/12 died, not all at once. They got really thin and their spines started to twist before they died. Other fish in the tank were fine. I suspect inbreeding.

$1.50 that's a great price! Wish they sold em that cheap around here

I may just have to buy some through you! Would probably be a while before I'm ready to buy them though!

ANYWAY to the OP They are great! and a joy to watch and very pretty fish! On top of that they are as hardy as most danios. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them if I could!

CPDs? I keep 8 or 9 in a fluval chi. I've kept them in everything from a small 5 gallon up to a 40 gallon and they act about the same in all of them. One thing I did notice is that they are much more active and less shy if the tank is well planted.

When I originally first bought some from a LFS I kept them in a 33 bowfront community tank. They spent all of their time in the back corner huddled together and died one by one until I moved them to a more species-friendly tank.

+1

I set-up my breeders, (2M / 4F), in 5 gallon tanks. Also grow-out fry in 20 longs, typically around 65 fish per tank.

They do best in groups, the more the merrier, and like Jetajockey said, plants are a must. They are very timid and must be made to feel secure in order to show well.

I would definitely think toward revising the stocking list to give the CPDs more room to move, as Tweak222 notes.

They go through shy phases and if/when you get the environment to their liking, they will definitely use as much space as they've got, so it might be worth making the 10G a CPD only tank so they've got enough space.

I just wanted to second jetajockey's comments, here. This is the same experience that I have had with this species. Give them loads of room and loads of plants, and you'll be able to see them more often.

Sounds great. Will your fish store be willing to take back babies, when the fish breed?

Ok I keep changing mind haha, well now it's turned into:

3 Sparkling Gourami
1 Guppy
1 Honey Gourami

I've been doing some research on Gouramis because I plan on getting one soon, and it seems they are territorial. I don't think it would be a good idea to have 4 of them in such a small tank.

Sparklers are not quite the same as the other gouramis as I understand it, you should be fine with them. I'm sorry you changed your mind on the CPDs. I love mine and they're always at the front when they see me, begging for food of course!!

I'm not sure the guppy will go well with the sparkling gourami. The sparklers can get a bit nippy with long fins.

I have researched these fish. Sparkling gouramis are shy and like to hide not very territorial either, they may fin nip a little bit but not enough to cause a problem. These types of gourami are not very territorial, the one your thinking of are dwarf gouramis. The honey gourami are peaceful.

I had a sparkling gourami for a short amount of time, he tore my guppies fins up pretty good. They were terrified of him. He left everyone else alone he just didn't like those big colorful tails. With 3 sparklers the guppy won't have anywhere to hide. Sparklers are very smart and you can tell they are constantly thinking about everything that is going on.

Then I will change the guppy to a platy since they don't have as long of fins and can defend himself better since he is bigger
