20 Gallon Tank Are black neons known for jumping?

I can't find any answer in the web so maybe some of you could help me.

I've a 20 gallon tall with 2 green fire tetra (they were a gift and the last of them in my lfs) and 12 black neon tetra (originally 14).

My water parameters are perfect.

pH: 6.5
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrites: 0ppm
Nitrates: 5ppm (I've been doing heavy water changes because I'm using medication)

They have the front 2/3 of the tank to swim since I don't have any hardscape, the other 1/3 is planted with hornwort. The substrate is white sand, Im planning to switch it for a darker sand.

I don't use the lids in my aquarium because the light that comes with them is garbage and because my water tends to heat up when I use a lid (I live in a hot country).

Ive read a lot of things about black neons jumping, anything from that they're known jumpers to that they only jump when stressed.

Im treating my tank for ick, the fish look active and are eating very well, they don't look lethargic. Could the medication be stressing them?

It's my first time owning black neons and it's my first time having fish jumping out of an aquarium, I don't really know what to think.

I already put the lid on the aquarium. But should I be worried that something is going on in my tank? or is it just that black neons are known for jumping?

I've had black neons for 4 + years. I've never seen them jump.

Only time I've seen such behavior was a bad water change due to high levels of chlorine

I'd do another water change & use Seachem prime.

I don't think that it's a chlorine problem, Im doing a 40% water change every 3 days (and treating the water before adding it to the tank). The fish jumped a few hours after a water change.

Could meds be the problem?

Possibly, but more likely the Ich itself which causes fish to flash and scrape and potentially to jump in an attempt to escape the discomfort. If you don't like to use lids you may want to lower the water level, at least while medicating.
