Are assassin snails and Malaysian Trumpet Snails the same snail?

Are assassin snails and Malaysian Trumpet Snails the same snail? I am looking for snails that will burrow and aerate my sand . I was looking for Malaysian Trumpet Snails on the internet to purchase and they came up as assassin snails. Is this just another name for them?

 

No they are different, mts will help aerate your sand while assassin snails kill other snail species

Depending on where you live you can maybe get some MTS for free. Just check around at the LFS and see which stores have unwanted snails in their tanks. Mine gave me 5 or 6 with some fish I bought once. That was maybe 6 months ago and I probably have hundreds now in my community tank.

 

No they different snails. Both snails enjoy digging so they aerate your substrate. However, MTS breed like mad if the temp is up and you overfeed. However, Assassin Snails will eat flakes and pest snails such as pond snails and MTS. They also don't breed as fast as MTS.

BTW: Why purchase them when you can go to your LFS or PetSmart and get some for free?

 

will assassin snails be just as good to stir up my sand? And they only assassinate snails right? lol cuz I was gunna put them in my soon to be shrimp tank.
