Are Any Of My Guppies Pregnant?

Hi, I bought 6 female Guppies from the pet shop yesterday and all the females were in there own tank but on closer inspection, I think 1 of them could be pregnant but it is hard to tell as they ALL have a dark spot on them.

 

Are you keeping them with any males? A dark spot doesn't mean pregnant, despite what others tell you.

They are either only a week into pregnancy or they aren't pregnant at all in afraid!

 

As far as I know they came from an all female tank but they do occaisionly get jumpers as the males are in the next tank. There were also some young Guppies in there with them. I only asked because 1 guppy seems MUCH fatter than the rest which all look the same.

 

Could you attach a picture of that one guppy alone please?

Her gravid spot is darker and she does looks a little plump. I'm guessing a week pregnant (but she could just be fat)! How long have you had her for in the tank?

Oh, well some of the others may be early in pregnancy too but I suspect that one is a week or so pregnant. Come back to me in about two weeks and I will know for sure if any are pregnant (provided you don't have males in the tank already)

I can also help you will advice and care for the mum and fry!

 

I haven't put them in with ANY males as I wanted to let them settle in 1st before I thought about breeding them so my Males are still in a different tank. I won't be putting any males in until I know if they are already pregnant or not. I wish it had let me upload the video. If they came from a pet store they are pregnant, the suppliers do not separate males from females until they send them out, which is why you sometimes get males in the female bag and females in with the males. It doesn't matter the store unless they are breeding them in the back and separating them.

I've had some guppies come from a pet store, just a regular one, where males and females jumped tanks and some still weren't pregnant. I've even had guppies be in mixed tanks in my own home for about a week and still no pregnancy! So it's not always the case, though it is usually

I'm afraid that's how it is! Another two weeks would be ideal to be honest..

 

I'm just too impatient to wait Do pregnant Guppies tend to hang out together rather? I only ask because I've noticed that the 2 I think may be pregnant have started swimming together away from the other 4 who I don' think are pregnant.

I also wondered how long it is before Guppies finally get their full markings of colour?

You mean their full body colour? They are usually in their full colour at about 3-6 months old, depending on the type and what conditions they are under. The dominant ones will be more colourful than the recessive.

 

Thank you, they have such lovely colours for Females and wondered if they would be likely to change if that's all. I especially like the full yellow 1s (I've never seen yellow Guppies before like that) and I love the blue tailed 1s

 

I got a yellow guppy with a grey body! Here, I also have a bunch of flame-red adolescents of both genders..

Thank you. They have some lovely markings on them and they shimmer really nicely when I turn the Blue Moon light on at night.
